Since the olden days, men needed to keep their trousers and pants up, and suspenders provided this. They were made as strips of and were attached to the trousers through buttonholes. In these olden days, they were only worn as an undergarment so as not to be indecent.
The modern day suspenders that brace was introduced in the nineteenth century. They were manufactured and designed by Albert Thurston. Moreover, braces were attached by using leather loops. Leather loops followed buttonholes as an attachment method and later metal clips were utilized.
Materials used to make them has also changed over time. for instance the materials used have evolved from ribbons to woven wool. This material was also known as box cloth. The different kinds of materials did not matter because all the suspenders served one main purpose of holding the trouser up. It was only high waist trousers that were considered fashionable then, and therefore belts were not typical. The trousers were high-waist that belts could not be used; only braces were suitable.
